RTPO to leave 

Laurence Keynes, the RTPO for LIFT, will be leaving his post after 3 years to join Ryde Development Trust.  The new contact for LIFT between January and the closure of the programme at the end of March 2007 is LIFT Chair Andy Morris, who can be contacted on 823780.

The closure of LIFT does not effect the Isle of Wight Community Rail Partnership.

LIFT to close 

LIFT, the Island's Rural Transport Partnership, will close with the end of the programme funding in march 2007.  SEEDA, the main funders, are now developing a new programme focused on improving access to rural services that will be launched in January 2008.

'Walks from Rails' launched

The first major initiative from the Community Rail Partnership has been launched with the assistance of LIFT.  Launched as part of the Isle of Wight Walking Festival 2005, the CRP have put together three walks from Ryde St Johns, Brading and Shanklin Stations.  These self guided walks leaflets will be available from all Stations and Tourist Information Centres on the Island.

LIFT Website to host Community Rail Partnership

LIFT have agreed to host content for the newly formed CRP.  The new content should be available by the end of May.

LIFT to join ‘Tourism without Traffic’ Project

LIFT will be supporting IW Tourism and Island 2000 Trust in a new project to develop non-car based tourist packages for the Island.  Laurence Keynes, RTPO for LIFT, commented ‘We have worked with Island 2000 before on developing the Bag Tag scheme and see this as the next step into fully fledged green tourism.  The Island has a limited road network and if we want to grow tourism further we must look to develop holiday packages that do not rely on the car.

March 2005

RCC announces closure of projects

The RCC has announced due to funding issues the closure at the end of March of its three transport projects Optio Community Transport, Sustainable Travel to Work and Wight Wheels.   The RCC and LIFT have been unable to secure third year funding for the projects and have decided to close the projects until further funding can be secured. Optio Buses, operators of the 103, 104 and 113, and the Optio Helpline are unaffected by this decision.
