Travel InformationGetting to the IslandThree operators provide frequent scheduled services to and from five different locations on the Island. WightlinkRyde – Portsmouth (High Speed Passenger)

East Cowes – Southampton (Car and Passenger) http://www.redfunnel.co.uk/ HovertravelTravel by trainMainline rail services connect directly with the Wightlink passenger service at Portsmouth Harbour. There is a bus service between Southampton Station and the Red Funnel passenger service, and between Portsmouth and Southsea Station and the Hover Port at Southsea. On the Island the train connects with the Wightlink passenger service at Ryde Pier Head, and with the Hoverport at Ryde Esplanade, for onward travel to all stations to Shanklin.
www.nationalrail.co.uk Public TransportTrainsThe Islands railway operates two trains per hour in each direction between Shanklin and the end of Ryde Pier, serving Ryde Esplanade, Ryde St John’s, Smallbrook Junction (interchange with steam railway only), Brading, Sandown, Lake and Shanklin. At Shanklin Station the No 16 Rail Bus Link now provides a service through to Ventnor and St Lawrence. The railway is operated by Island Line, a subsidiary of Stagecoach Group PLC.
http://www.island-line.co.uk/ BusesSeveral operators provide services on the Island. The main operator is Southern Vectis, who have a comprehensive network of services across the Island. Southern Vectis also serve all of the ferry ports, with the exception of Fishbourne which is a few minutes walk from a frequent bus service. Southern Vectis offer a range of Rover and Freedom tickets for unlimited travel on one or more days. Their website offers more information on services and timetables for all routes. A full printed timetable is available directly from Southern Vectis. http://www.islandbuses.info WightBus, owned by the IW Council, also operates a number of local services. They also operate Number 13, 16, 20, 22, 24, 29, 30, 31, 33, 35 and 39 services as well as providing a Dial-a-Bus service. Community TransportSeveral organisations offer community transport on the Island, primarily using minibuses operated on a local basis. If you would like to find out more about these services please contact us.
The IW Rural Community Council operate the Optio voluntary car scheme to assist those who have problems accessing services to get around. For more information call Optio on (01983) 522226.
