2nd Walks from Rails launched
A second year of walks as part of the IW CRP's 'Walks from Rails' festival will take place during the 2006 Isle of Wight Walking Festival in May. T
he CRP have put together six walks from Ryde St Johns (Ashey Races), Brading (Reclamation)and Shanklin Station (Beyond the Buffers), Sandown Station (Lake Common), Ryde Esplanade (Coastal Ryde) and Yarmouth (Old) Station (The Solent Tunnel). The self guided walks leaflets are still available from all Stations and Tourist Information Centres on the Island.
March 2006 Island Line designated a Community Rail Line
Rail Minister Derek Twigg announced at the ACoRP annual conference that Island Line would be the first line outside the original pilots to be given the 'community rail designation'. The Minister said: " Designation is great news for the Island Line. It will enable management to meet local needs at an affordable price, encouraging involvement from stakeholders."
Jack Richards, Chair of the CRP, welcomed the news as a major committment to the long term future of the railway on the Island.
March 2006 Dave Woracker (1955- 2006)
It is with great sadness that the CRP announces the death of Executive Committee member Dave Woracker. Dave represented Transport 2000 on the Island and on the CRP, and has played an active role in transport policy both locally and nationally. Dave had also worked as a consultant for Island Line.
July 2005 Rail Development Officer
The Community Rail Partnership are pleased to confirm that Bobby Lock has been appointed as Rail Development Officer, Bobby will take up the post in September.
June 2005 Launch Conference in Shanklin
The Launch Conference for the CRP is to be held on 20th June 2005 at Winchester House, Shanklin. Speakers confirmed for the event include Chris Austin from the SRA, Neil Buxton from ACoRP and Nigel smith from IW Tourism
